Lisa Malone serves as the director of Public Affairs at NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. With more than 25 years experience in Public Affairs, she is responsible for overseeing news media, television, web, social media, exhibits and internal communications. She leads a diverse NASA and contractor team, which is tasked to disseminate information about NASA and Kennedy Space Center's programs. Her responsibilities include managing media activities surrounding expendable launch vehicle launches, flight hardware showings and other high profile events. She is responsible for hundreds of media representatives from worldwide news gathering organizations who cover America's space program.
Malone is responsible for all printed information, video releases, news conferences, official still photography and production of live coverage of KSC launches and major events. She oversees activities of various motion picture and television crews, which shoot on location at NASA KSC for space-related feature films, documentaries and news shows with diverse audiences. She advises KSC management on public affairs issues and policy, and oversees the center's Freedom of Information function.
Malone has held key positions in NASA Public Affairs during most of the time the space shuttle flew into low Earth orbit. This includes numerous media events for launches, landings, cross-country, ferry flights, astronaut tests, and orbiter and space station element processing around the center. Malone also has experience in managing the KSC Visitor Complex, government relations and education programs to engage teachers and students into STEM careers. She has managed the center's VIP launch guest program including briefings, tours and launch viewing. She has served as a launch commentator for 15 years for space shuttle and expendable launch vehicle launches including the Atlas, Delta and other rockets.
She joined NASA following graduation from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala., with a bachelor's degree in communications. Malone received her master's degree in management from the Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, Fla.
