- Local Government Internship
Professional and technical level planning work of moderate complexity in community development and land use activities as they relate to the administration of a variety of City planning projects/programs. Work may involve reviewing development plans and applying regulations governing community development, zoning and land use. Duties will include technical and creative responsibility in conducting research and preparing moderately complex and detailed work on land use, conservation, housing, population, coastal management, historic preservation, urban design and other areas of comprehensive planning activities. May also perform field studies and data processing related duties, including using available statistical packages or programs, encoding data, data entry and retrieval.
A professional member of the planning team will be assigned as the intern’s mentor and ensure the intern is provided the following experiences:
* Exposure to other governmental and outside agencies and officials, neighborhood groups, developers, and realtors that engage wit the City on routine basis.
* Participation internal development review committee meetings and attendance at the Community Development Board and City Council Meetings at which various planning cases and subjects are discussed and outcomes determined;
* Attendance at departmental staff meetings and other internal project meetings and participation in in-house professional development training or course
