A seasoned public affairs professional with expertise in digital outreach and social media, Shelby Taylor is the communications director for the University of Florida's Bob Graham Center for Public Service. In this role she is responsible for the overall direction of the center's communications, public relations, marketing and outreach efforts. Her pitches, press releases and opinion editorials have earned the center placement in The Chronicle of Higher Education, Florida Trend, the New York Times,The Miami Herald and the Tampa Bay Times, among others. She is the writer, editor and creative director for all of the center’s print publications including the center’s flagship publication, Graham Central.
Taylor also sets the digital strategy for the Bob Graham Center — managing its website, social media, visual storytelling platforms and other digital assets. She served as the project manager during the development and installation of the grant-funded digital media interactive —The Civil Debate Wall. The Wall won a prestigious communication award, a 2012 Communicator Award, presented by the International Academy of Visual Arts.
Taylor also serves as the administrator of the center's Citizen of the Year and Young Floridian Awards Program and manages the center’s participation in national surveys and initiatives aimed at improving voter registration and mobilization.
Working closely with the center’s director and senior development officer, Taylor also works to raise private funds for the Bob Graham Center through grant proposals, annual giving campaigns and the implementation of donor acquisition and stewardship programs.
Before joining the Bob Graham Center, Taylor served as part of the strategic communications team with Bose Public Affairs Group, where her client list included Kroger Supermarkets; U.S. Steel Corporation; The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America; The Indiana Association of Cities and Towns and RE/MAX of Indiana. Her portfolio includes extensive work in media outreach, social media strategy and online reputation management.
Taylor also worked as the communications coordinator for the Indiana Hospital Association, the advocacy organization representing Indiana’s hospitals. She was the web master and social media coordinator for the association and its affiliate organization, the Indiana Patient Safety Center. Her responsibilities included preparing position papers, press releases and promotional materials for the association’s ancillary services and its political action committee. Her background in higher education includes a stint as assistant director of Ball State University’s business development unit, the Center for Organizational Resources. While there, she was part of the team that launched Ball State’s Indianapolis Center in 2006.
Taylor graduated cum laude from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a minor in Business Administration. She earned her master’s degree in Public Relations from Ball State University.
