We read a great deal about the alleged self-absorption and disengagement of young people these days. Much of this is overstated as evidenced by their turnout in the presidential primaries and by the number of young men and women opting to serve our country in the armed forces.

Our experience at the University of Florida Bob Graham Center for Public Service and Honors Program underscores the dedication and engagement of young people. We have students who are enthusiastically pursuing public service in a variety of ways.

The Honors Program and Graham Center sought to capitalize on the energy and involvement of millennials by partnering to create a summer course offering for new freshmen in 2015. Titled “Summer in the City,” the course explores Gainesville and ways to get involved with our community. READ MORE.
